3D Reconstructions

For 3D computer reconstructions Architectura Virtualis offers partial and complete solutions from researching and modeling to scriptwriting and film production to the development of complex exhibits and installations. The goal is to vividly present reconstructions to the public on the basis of state-of-the art research. The projects are worked out closely in cooperation with archaeologists, architectural historians and art historians.

Among the projects carried out are, for example, the Berlin castle, the cathedrals in Mainz, Speyer and Worms, the imperial palaces in Aachen and Frankfurt, the synagogues from Hamburg, Mannheim and Frankfurt, the Wartburg, or the Templo Mayor in Mexico. Besides individual buildings also reconstructions of cities were developed, for example, the presentation of the history of the grounds Olympic Games in Berlin.

Furthermore, as a cooperation partner of the Technical University of Darmstadt, Architectura Virtualis is involved in international research projects of the Department of Information and Communication Technology in Architecture. Examples here are the reconstructions of the Kremlin in Moscow, the graves of the emperors in Xi’an, China or the temple of the Khmer in Angkor, Cambodia.

The particular advantages of 3D computer reconstructions are purposefully used in the individual projects. For the depiction of the architecture, it is the atmospheric effect, particularly in the presentation of interiors, the comparison of different construction phases or variations or the fading of the reconstruction in the actual location. Beyond this also the simulation of technical and physical processes can be ralized. Depending upon the didactic concept, films, individual navigation or interactivity are employed.

Over and above this, Architectura Virtualis utilizes new, innovative procedures and technologies. Thus the possibilities of Rapid Prototyping are used and haptic models are produced by machine from virtual buildings and cities. This procedure opens new possibilities for exhibits. For example, virtual and haptic models can be combined. The respective special advantages can be shown, as in the exhibit "History of the Grounds of the Olympic Games in Berlin ".
