Zitadelle Jülich

Museum Zitadelle Jülich

Completed: 2024

The history of the Jülich Citadel site dates back to Roman times. Jülich was granted town status in 1234. In 1547, a devastating fire destroyed large parts of the town. Subsequently, Jülich was rebuilt as an ideal urban and residential complex. The bastion fortress surrounding the town and castle underwent continuous expansion until the 19th century. The virtual reconstruction illustrates this development through abstract virtual models.

Detailed, atmospheric models were used to visualize Jülich Castle, which was part of the citadel. It was designed by the Italian architect Alessandro Pasqualini. The virtual reconstruction depicts the castle as it appeared in the 1600s. The visualization focused on the inner courtyard, the staircases, and the castle chapel.
