Flossenbürg Concentration Camp
Memorial Site
Completed: 2007
For the permanent exhibit in the Flossenbürg concentration camp memorial site, a haptic model of the former concentration camp grounds was produced for the entrance area. A projection on the model and another on the wall behind the model explain the function and the history of the concentration camp. The haptic models of the grounds, including the concentration camp buildings, were produced by machine on the basis of a previously constructed digital model. The grounds were mill-cut. The individual buildings were constructed by the plaster printing procedure.
In its permanent exhibit the German Historical Museum in Berlin displays a second copy of this exhibit. This is a case where the advantages of Rapid Prototyping are evident, as in a very short period of time a duplicate could be produced.
